Burbank Road Kings’s Newsletter
The Rodders and Racers Club for over 50 Years!

VOLUME 152, ISSUE 10 OCTOBER 2011

Hello everyone, hope all is well and fine with everyone. Well here we are again, seems like deja vu. Thats right, time for the SANTA ANITA CAR SHOW, so get in your car show mode and let’s hit the road. Get your horses lined up to bet on and bring your friends and family.

It would be beneficial if everyone attends the October club meeting in order to go over, and line up all our ducks so everything is in place for the car show. We are on board with vendors, tee shirts, and all other arrangements, but we can sure use some additional help day of show.

Rodger Nevrel is doing a hell of a good job with vendors, and Jimmy Gascoigne is doing his usual fantastic job bringing in donations, not to mention he has signed up all of our trophy sponsors. Thanks a lot to all of those that have helped throughout everyone of our events.

Gift For Member Car Show Participants
Here is the deal, IF YOU BRING YOUR CAR TO THE SHOW, YOU WILL GET A FREE EVENT ‘T’ SHIRT. Yeah-h-h-h you heard right, finally a free t-shirt. All you need to do is bring your car to the show! George, Frank and I think the TEES are very cool this year. “Oh, don’t worry, this year the show is so easy we’ll all have a lot of fun, besides, this could be our last year, SO SHOW UP!”

Nominate Officers For 2012
This month is open for nomination of club officers for next year, 2012. Think about it and decide who you would like to see headin’ up the club next year and nominate them. The following month everyone will vote for those nominated.

We have a new prospective member this month, sponsored by Roger Nevrel. He has a cool 1959, El Camino. E board took a look and all agree, it’s cool, oh, by the way, his name is Greg Semas. Also we have one of the original Road King members that rejoined the club. Now that’s a member back in ’52, his name is Bob Sageser. “Bob, hope I spelled your name correctly!”

“One last comment. We have been lucky enough to have dinner available at all club meetings but a problem has come to our attention. Due to the fact that only a few members are paying for dinner (seven (7) last month), the Elks are not able to continue to provide us with a meal each month unless more members partake. This may be our last month to enjoy the Elk’s feast. This month Taco’s are on the menu, so if you want dinner to continue at our meetings, start eating and pay your share.

Remember, Keep Your Hot Rod Out OF The Garage!!!

The Harbor Run Car Show
Wow! What a great show. Road Kings won in trophies and raffles. Just ask your vice president what raffle prize he brought home. I believe it had the initials “HP”.

The Road Kings had the pleasure of parking right next to the water and enjoyed a rather warm morning. While the guys bulls_ _ted, their better halves were out shopping at the Farmer’s Market.

After the show everyone headed over to Frank and Mary Nays for their annual Nay BBQ. Everyone brought their favorite dish or appetizer and settled in for a great time of camaraderie and food. The neighbors came over to check out the club cars and welcome us to the neighborhood. Thanks again Frank and Mary for your hospitality.

Almost forgot! Next time you see either Larry Tadlock or Lou Bartoletti, ask them to explain about the “Chair Nazi” (see photos).

WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE
Our own Ted Saraf sent in photos from this years Woodward Dream Cruise.  Amazing that 40,000 cars came to this event over the week of Aug 15 – 21.  Ted attended the Ferndale Police and Fire show and won Best of Show with his 68 Dodge Coronet Police Pursuit Car. Ted highly recommends that all should experience this event, it is huge with around 1,000,000 (one million) people attending the event. P.S. the girl in the police hat is Ted’s cousin.

RACE REPORT

GREETINGS KINGS AND QUEENS, THE SUMMER CONTINUES TO BE VERY VERY SUCCESSFUL FOR THE G.T.O. I GUESS IT LIKES HOT WEATHER.HERE’S HOW IT WENT, SINCE MY VICTORY AND FIRST WALLY AT SACRAMENTO, I’VE HAD 3 RACES, ALL AT FAMOSO RACEWAY IN BAKERSFIELD, AND THE TEMPERATURES WERE BETWEEN 95 AND 105, WITH TRACK TEMPERATURES OF 130 TO 145! I HAD STRUGGLED WITH QUALIFYING AT A RACE IN LATE JULY, A WEST COAST HOD ASSOC. MEET, YOU KNOW THAT 10 INCH TIRE CLASS, AND QUALIFIED 3RD, AND WENT ON TO WIN THE RACE, NOW ITS 2 WINS IN A ROW. WOW HOW LONG CAN THIS GO ON. NEXT 1ST WEEK END IN AUGUST, THIS TIME A.N.R.A. ASSOC. A/GAS, QUALIFIED O.K. 3RD AGAIN, BUT WENT THROUGH THE SAME 4 BLOWN CARS, PUT THEM ALL ON THE TRAILER AGAIN, NOW IT’S 3 WINS IN A ROW, NEXT AN OTHER A.N.R.A. MEET, THE SAME GUYS I’VE BEEN BEATING UP ON ALL SUMMER. THEY ALL LET ME KNOW THEY HAD SOME SPECIAL FOR ME, SO I KEPT CHECKING FOR NAILS IN MY TIRES OR A PLUG WIRE OFF. TURNS OUT THEY DID HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR ME, AN OTHER WIN FOR ME!  I RAN THROUGH THE FIELD PRETTY GOOD, MY LAST RUN WAS .014 LIGHT WITH A PERFECT 7.60 E.T. ON THE 7.60 INDEX. WHAT A SUMMER, 6 FINALS AND 4 STRAIGHT WINS, AND LIKE ANY TEENAGER I DON’T WANT SUMMER TO END. THANKS GUYS AND GALS FOR YOUR KIND WORDS OF SUPPORT, I HOPE YOU WILL ALL COME OUT TO SEE MY A/GAS CLASS RUN AT THE HOT ROD REUNION THE WEEK END AFTER SANTA ANITA. I HAVE THREE WEEK ENDS IN A ROW AT BAKERSFIELD STARTING THE 7,8,&9 THROUGH THE 23RD. HOPE TO SEE SOME OF YOU ALL.    ROAD KINGS ARE STILL GOING FAST AND LOVING IT!  THANKS,
