The Rodders and Racers Club for over 50 Years!

VOLUME 149, ISSUE 7 JULY 2011

Hello All!

We had a fantastic car show at Johnny Carson Park. I don’t think there was one complaint from anyone. The participants and spectators had one heck of a time, and the officers, myself especially want to thank all the club guys and gals for the best job ever. THANK YOU from all the officers. You know it’s going to be tuff to out do this one, but we are already getting started on our 60 year anniversary Show. I will talk about all discussed at next meeting.

Also we had a great time at the Newhall Car Show, thanks to Karl Grossman for setting that up.

Please make it to our next club meeting because there is much to discuss, great things coming and we need everyones input.

Some of the guys requested T-shirts and dash plaques from the car show. All that will be at the meeting.

WOW, Christmas, already! We have a ton of business to go over at the next E-Board meeting. The Christmas Party, and planning our annual picnic. Meeting will be at the Chamber of Commerce July 20th.

Santa Anita Car Show
Santa Anita called and invited us to discuss the possibility of another car show in October. All officers attended as well as car show chairman. I want to let you know of the generous offer that was made, and the only way to find out the plan is to be at the meeting next Tuesday. I will outline what Santa Anita has laid out on the table for us.

It was clear in the meeting that Santa Anita wants to make up for last year’s cancelled car show based on their offer. So please come to meeting to listen to their offer.

Keep Cruisin’
Rick

I will reiterate what all officers have stated. The meeting with Santa Anita went well. The officers and I feel confident it is in the best interest of club that Santa Anita go forward.

Ronnie Alves and George Bess have setup a fantastic Mystery Run, so members be ready to sign up at Tuesday’s meeting if you want to go. The Run is Saturday, July 30th. Leaving the donut shop at 10:30 AM for a 85 mile round trip with a lunch stop in the middle. Be prepared to sign up at the meeting so we can give the restaurant/bar a count of people attending. Thanks to Ronnie and George

HAVE FUN! Frank Nay

You will soon find out the great news from Santa Anita. They want us back and during the course of Tuesday’s meeting you will find out just how much they want us. As mentioned by all officers, the meeting went very well. See all you at our next meeting

Don Hoffman
Secretary

Another month and great news. Had a great meeting with Santa Anita, an all looks good. I want to thank all the car show chairmen for their help in making my job easier. I could not have done the job without your assistance. I want to send out a special thank you to F’ast” Eddie Salvatore for taking time out of his busy schedule to assist me with security Saturday night before the car show.

Chuck Stein
Treasurer

As our president has stated, we are going to present a proposal from Santa Anita Park to sponsor a car show in October 2011. The officers are notifying the membership that we will hold a secret ballot vote at Tuesday’s meeting this July 12.

JOHNNY CARSON CAR SHOW

WOW WHAT A SHOW! The past six months of preparation paid off. We had one hellava show. Almost every detail ran smoothly and for the slight problems, hey no one knew a thing about them. We had so many participants and spectators come up and congratulate us on one of the best shows ever. The changes were welcomed by all and made for a terrific afternoon.

I want to thank the Cusumano Group, David Firth-Smith, Ross Shepherd for their generous donations. I also want to thank the members that donated to the raffle with a gift or with cash to purchase gifts for the raffle. We had a FANTASTIC show due to those of you that worked your butt’s off. THANK YOU! Don Baldaseroni

RACE REPORT

Larry Dixon, Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel Dragster (silver)
Saturday, Dixon posted a 3.877-second pass at 306.12 mph to move up from 11th to sixth in the qualifying order.
Eliminations: Dixon defeated Bob Vandergriff and Brandon Bernstein before losing to Spencer Massey in the semifinals.
Unofficial Point Standings: Dixon drops one spot to third place in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings.  He trails second-place Spencer Massey by 14 points and leads fourth-place Antron Brown by 78 points.
Dixon on Norwalk: “We just ended up wearing too much clutch in the semifinals, and our Al-Anabi Toyota slowed down.  It was the wrong time to have that happen, and it was disappointing for our side of the Al-Anabi team.  The positive is that Del covered for us and won in the final.  It was a great job by him and the team for the whole weekend.  They were the No. 1 qualifier and won the event.  We’ll go to Joliet in a couple of weeks and try again.” cited: http://www.alanabiracing.com/aev-131.aspx

DRAG RACE REPORT JULY, 2011.

HI KINGS AND QUEENS!
WHAT A MONTH OF JUNE I’VE HAD. I AM REALLY GETTING A HANDLE ON MY GTO. WE ARE BECOMING ONE MAJOR COMPETITOR. ALL THE TESTING, TUNING, TWEAKING,CHASSIS ADJUSTMENTS, AND JUST GETTING TO KNOW HOW THIS NEW SET UP WORKS ON DIFFERENT TRACKS, AND WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE PAYING GREAT DIVIDENDS. MY LAST RACE WAS A NIGHT RACE IN BAKERSFIELD WITH THE WEST COAST HOT ROD ASSOC. I RAN TWO CLASSES, A/GAS, AND OUTLAW 10.5. I WENT TO THE FINALS IN BOTH CLASSES, AND WHAT A HUSTLE IT WAS, AS ONE CLASS IS AN INDEX, NO FASTER THAN 7.60, AND THE OTHER IS AS FAST AS YOU CAN GO IN THE 1/8 MILE. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT TUNE UPS, BECAUSE IF I RUN THE SAME TUNE UP FOR THE 1/8TH AS AN EXAMPLE IT WILL GO CLOSE TO 7.10 IN THE QUARTER. I LOST IN BOTH FINALS, BUT DID A PERSONAL BEST IN THE 1/8TH 4.69 SEC @161.56 M.P.H. ONE RACE I WAS A LITTLE LATE OFF THE LINE AND THE OUT LAW CLASS WAS A TWIN TURBO MUSTANG BY GARRETT TURBOS WITH A 3 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET, I HAD NO CHANCE, HE RAN 4.41 SEC @175 IN THE 1/8TH! BUT I BEAT A LOT OF NITROUS CARS ON THE ROAD TO THE FINALS.

THE RACE BEFORE THAT WAS AT BAKERSFIELD AS WELL WITH  ANRA ASSOC. IT WAS A SUPER RACE, AND I ONLY RAN 1 CLASS, A/GAS, A 7.60 INDEX. I DID NOT QUALIFY THAT GREAT, 5TH BUT COME RACE DAY I WAS READY AND SO WAS THE GTO. I WILL START WITH THE QUARTER FINALS WHERE I RACED MY OLD FRIEND LARRY OFRIA FROM VALLY HEAD SERVICE. I TREED HIS PROFESSION DRIVER AND PUT THE BLOWN 57 CHEVY ON THE TRAILER, NEXT THE SEMIS, WHERE A DREW A JERRY BICKLE 57 CHEVY, ALSO SUPERCHARGED, WITH A MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET, AND WE SENT HIM HOME EARLY. NEXT, THE CHAMP TERRY NEWTON, WHO’S BEEN WINNING EVERYTHING LATELY IN A/GAS, AND AFTER I WAS DEAD LATE, I DROVE AROUND HIS BLOWN STUDIE LIKE HE WAS PARKED, AND WAS ABLE TO HIT THE BRAKES AND GET THE WIN LIGHT. WE WERE CHAMPS THAT NIGHT. SO THREE RACES AND THREE FINALS AND 1 REALLY COOL WIN AGAINST THREE BLOWN CARS, I AM STILL ON CLOUD 9.SPEAKING OF BRAKES, ON 1 OF MY QUALIFYING RUNS A BRAKE LINE BROKE, AND NOW THEY CALL ME BRODIE AS I MADE AN ABRUPT SLIDING TURN AT THE LAST TURN OUT TO AVOID THE SAND TRAP. THE ONLY THING HURT WAS A FRONT TIRE, AND I FIXED THE LINE AND AS I MENTIONED RACE DAY WAS UNREAL. AFTER A SLOW START TO THE SEASON, I AM SECOND IN THE POINTS IN THREE DIFFERENT ASSOCIATIONS. AFTER WRITING THE RACE REPORT I FOUND OUT WEST COAST HOT ROD THAT I AM NOW IN 1ST PLACE IN THE  OUTLAW 10.5 CLASS. WOW!
DRIVE FAST MY FRIENDS,   AS ALWAYS AL WHITE
