VOLUME 148, ISSUE 6 JUNE 2011
To All Road Kings
Hope all members are well and rested! This is a big month for our club, and extremely important that all members attend the Car Show. Get rested so we can get the job done and support the cause. Remember this assignment is part of supporting our club, and there is no excuse!!! Be there, June 12th at 6 a.m.
Your assignment should be the same as it was for last year’s show. If you don’t remember your task, or if you did not attend the show, or if you are a new member, contact Don Baldaseroni or Frank Nay for an assignment. There have been a few changes made so please contact your chairman. Also, there will be a sign-in sheet at the next meeting, so make sure to sign it.
If anyone is interested in helping set-up on Saturday before the car show, it will be greatly appreciated. Be there at 2:00 p.m.
June’s club meeting will take place one week early this month. We are meeting the first Tuesday of the month, June 7th, at which time we will set guidelines for the car show. Everyone should attend so there are no surprises at the show.
We also want to wish Harold and Cecelia Slagg our best. Cecelia is going in for surgery next week. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.
Dinner this month will be everyone’s favorite, spaghetti.
Keep Cruisin’
Rick
Final reminder, does everyone know what their job is for our June 12th Car Show. By now you should have spoken to one of the Car Show Chairmen to find out what your responsibility will be at the show. Call Don Baldaseroni or myself if you aren’t sure of the different chairmen, or check your May newsletter
HAVE FUN!
Frank Nay
Is everyone ready for 2011 Johnny Carson? The chairmen are working hard to make this year one of the best shows ever. Get the word out and remember, we have flyers left to get out to the Auto Part Housse in your neighborhood, or restaurants, etc. So call Sue and go over and pick-up some!
Don Hoffman
Secretary
I’m sure everyone is tired of hearing about the car show, but again we need raffle prizes. Jim Gascoigne is doing a great job in collecting as many as possible. Also, Roger Nevrel has brought in a new group of vendors besides our old faithful that arrive every year. Looks like we will have a variety of shops on Vendor’s Row. Thank you Roger and Jim.
Chuck Stein
Treasurer
I want everyone to know that we are two weeks away from our show. If you have not signed up to work or brought in a raffle donation, please go out and get the Parts House in your area to donate a part or like some of the members have done drop off money or a check at the Road King office so they can pick up raffle prizes in your name. Thanks to the members that have dropped off money, checks and prizes at Sue’s office for our show.
Ed Drogmund
Sergeant-At-Arms
RELAY
I want to thank everyone for the support all the members provided to “Fast” Eddie and myself on Saturday May 14th, the day of Relay for Life. I’m not going to name names because with my memory I would forget someone. Just know how important you are to us for participating for a few hours.
We raised close to $3000 this year, not record breaking but every little bit helps. Again a big THANK YOU! Don B.
CAR SHOW
The car show has gone through a few changed this year. The cars will be parked facing toward the cement stage, and awards for the Top 15 will be awarded.
For all new members, if a chairmen has not contacted you, please look one up at the next meeting and let them know that you want to work. So please, members and significant others, have a great time at the show.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CITY OF BURBANK
As we all know, this year is the 100th birthday of incorporation for our wonderful City.
On July 8, 2011, the City is planning a huge celebration and would like the Road Kings to participate. It is an event you won’t want to miss, so please sign-up for July 8th and Don Baldaseroni will give you all the information you need for the event when he calls those that have signed up.
Our cars will be placed on Olive Ave. between San Fernando Road and 3rd Street. Don will advise everyone of the time when he calls. “ONLY THE ROAD KINGS THAT SIGN-UP WILL BE CALLED.”
The City requires an accurate head count, so please let me know as soon as possible. Road King members only.
CAR SHOW WINNERS
Road King “Nasty” Noel did it again. “You ask, what did he do?” Well he picked up another award at the Camarillo ROP show. He took first place in his category after the judges broke a three way tie.
We also have to put our hands together and congratulate Jim Nicholson for picking up an award at the Route 66 show. There were about five Road Kings present, but only Jim and Bob Beck brought their cars.

RACE REPORT
Larry Dixon, Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel Dragster (silver)
cond pass at 320.43 mph.
Eliminations: Dixon defeated Terry Sainty before losing to Doug Kalitta in the second round of eliminations.
Unofficial Point Standings: Dixon will remain third in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings. He trails second-place Tony Schumacher by four points and leads fourth-place Spencer Massey by four points.
Dixon on Topeka: “We’re all a little let down about today’s result. I look forward to this race and all the other warm-weather races because we’ve had such great success in warm weather. So I’m lovin’ it. Today, we had a great first round, second quick to our teammate. In the second round, we went up there to try to run a mid-to a high 3.80, and the Al-Anabi car put a cylinder out right at the hit of the throttle. It’s hard to beat people when you’re down 1,000 horse power the whole way down the track. Doug made a nice pass and got the win. We’ll go onto Englishtown and be ready to go when we get there.

DRAG RACE REPORT MAY, 2011.
HELLO MY FELLOW ROAD KINGS AND QUEENS
THE MONTH OF MAY HAS BEEN A GREAT MONTH SO FAR. MY FRIEND NORM AND I WENT TO BAKERSFIELD TO RACE WITH THE OUTLAW CARS, ( 10 INCH TIRE AND ANY THING GOES, BLOWERS, NITROUS OXIDE, TURBOS ETC. I’M AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE TO SAY THE LEAST, BUT IT’S ALL FOR FUN. MY FRIEND CRIS OF ALSTON CHASSIS WORKS HAS THE FASTEST CAR IN THE CLASS, A NOVA WITH A 2400 HORSE POWER BLOWN MOTOR. MY GTO DID GREAT, QUALIFYING #2 IN THE CLASS. LAST YEAR MY BEST TIME WAS 4.9 SECONDS @142 MPH IN THE 1/8 MILE RACE. THEY ONLY RACE THE 1/8 MILE IN THIS CLASS BECAUSE IF WE RUN THE FULL QUARTER MILE SOME OF THE CARS WOULD GO 220 MPH, AND IT’S TOO FAST ON THAT LITTLE TIRE. ANYWAY THIS YEAR I RAN 4,7 SECONDS @161 MPH, THAT’S NOT A MISPRINT 161.38 IN THE 1/8 MILE, I WAS SHOCKED. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 205 MPH IN THE QUARTER IF WE WERE ALLOWED TO RUN THE FULL STRIP! THE QUARTER FINALS WERE EASY AS MY OPPONENT DID NOT SHOW, THESE BLOWN AND NITROUS CARS ARE ALWAYS BREAKING. THE SEMIS WERE NOT THAT CLOSE AS THE 2002 GTO I RAN WAS A NITROUS BREATHING ANIMAL WITH A 5 SPEED LENCO TRANS, BUT I PUT HIM ON THE TRAILER WITH. A 4.73 E.T TO HIS SLOWER 4.98, PLUS I LEFT ON HIM .028 TO HIS .098. CRIS’S NOVA BROKE IN THE SEMI’S, BUT HE HAD A BYE RUN. WE GAVE HIM SOME EXTRA TIME AND THEY GOT IT FIXED FOR THE FINAL. I KNEW I’D HAVE TO STEP IT UP, SO I WENT TO MY BAG OF TRICKS AND TUNED IT TO MAKE IT GO AS FAST AS IT COULD. WE BOTH DID LONG BURNOUTS ACROSS THE STARTING LINE, AS THE HOT TRACK WAS GETTING GREASY. WE BROUGHT THE ENGINES UP AND WHEN THE LITE TURNED GREEN, I JUST SAT THERE AND SMOKED THE TIRES, AND IT WAS OVER. BUT WE GOT TO THE FINAL AND MADE A FEW BUCKS. WE ARE GOING TO VEGAS MEMORIAL WEEK END.THANKS AGAIN TO STAN AND SHARRON DALTON FOR THERE CONTINUED SUPPORT.
AS ALWAYS, AL WHITE
Happy Flag Day!
